Service Project Descriptions:
Dulles South Community Moms focus on community service projects benefiting four organizations local to the Dulles South area. These include the Dulles South Food Pantry, Ellie’s Hats, Mobile Hope of Loudoun, and the Loudoun Abused Women’s Shelter. Four times a year we hold donation drives for each organization to include both donations of items and monetary funds. Part of our membership requirements also include a $10 per member yearly donation to one of these four organizations. In March 2019 Dulles South Community Moms donated over 300 food items to the Dulles South Food Pantry. The Dulles South Food Pantry works to alleviate hunger in our local community by distributing food and personal supplies to those in need. Mobile Hope of Loudoun works with their Listen for the Honk bus to distribute foods, personal supplies, and school supplies to in need youth and young adults around Loudoun county. They also offer community youth and crisis services to homeless and at risk youth in Loudoun County. In 2020, we will donate gift cards to allow the family to fulfill their own holiday wish lists and feel empowered in their decision making. LAWS is a domestic violence and sexual assault crisis center benefiting the needs of women around Loudoun county. They provide crisis support, immediate shelter, counseling, legal services, support groups, and personal items to abused women and their children in need. The organization was started in 2015 in honor of Fairfax kindergartener Ellie who was attending school daily wearing hats due to hair loss from her cancer treatments. To brighten the day of children battling cancer they sent care packages to include hats for children with hairloss. In addition to sending care packages across the US Ellie’s Hats provides financial assistance to a selection of families in the local community each year to alleviate some of the financial strains families experience during cancer treatment.
